I've comprehensively snookered myself with the 3 bid, I really don't see what I can do. X will cause me to play 4 on a 5-2 fit or 4 on a 5-2 or possibly 5-1. So partner should pass the double ? Yes but he might well not thinking you actually have 6 or 7 hearts. I'm unfamiliar with the naming convention for American events, is this pairs or teams ? at teams I probably stay fixed as -800 is in the frame here, but at pairs I'll risk something.

I'm trying to get a poll on this as it is not so much a bidding problem but rather a laws question , but I've made a bad job at forming the question.

Back for teams today, I will check back in on this later.

OK, then this is a real problem to get a decent poll, GL finding a sample of players who can get into the mind of somebody that would bid 3 here, I guess from your comment about teams today that this was pairs in which case I'll double whether it's T/O or pens, I don't really care which it is, at pairs I can't stomach pass and there's no other sensible call I can make.

You are right on both counts.

If it's a laws question, why not post it in the laws forum?

I was attempting to get a response to gauge if there was a LA to what occurred at the table but as cyberyeti points out, the auction makes no sense.

4 would be ridiculous - we already overstated our heart length with 3. I think we should be told the eanings of 2NT (presumably minors) and 4 (extras or extra length?). We should also be told what North's options were. Someone has a lot of spades. If it is partner then we want to double and play 4. If East then we probably want to defend. Overall the call that seems to have the biggest upside is double but partner is never going to play me for this after 3.

Also need to know what 3m would have been from partner. If with a weak 2 in spades he can bid 3/ because a better hand is shown by the other, that makes a difference.

N/S have no agreements over the 2N bid.

You don't need one more abstention because 3H is so bad, but thats really all I can say. If you dropped me into this chair with a gun to my head I suppose I'd double. ("Sectional" implied matchpoints to me. I have sympathy for a chickenhearted pass at IMPs.)
