After (1D)-DBL-(P)-2C

Recommended Posts

We ended in the wrong contract with following bidding:

(1)-DBL-(P)-2

(P)-2-(P)-2

(P)-3-(P)-4

(P)-4-AP

We agree until:

- 2=No 4cM and weak

- 2=very strong, not necessarily -fit, not GF

And questioned:

- 2: Is this promising extras or just a 3-card with a stop. Can it be done with?: xxx=QJx=xx=xxxxx

- If DBL'er would bid 3, is that forcing?:

(1)-DBL-(P)-2

(P)-2-(P)-2

(P)-3

- Is 3 very strong with a -fit?:

(1)-DBL-(P)-2

(P)-2-(P)-2

(P)-3

- Is 4 a cue for , or can it be a very strong hand with only ?:

(1)-DBL-(P)-2

(P)-2-(P)-2

(P)-3-(P)-4

(P)-4

The bidding and hands:

Is 2 then 3 NF/F1/GF from the big hand (and how many clubs does it show, can pd have xxx, QJx, xxxxx, xx ?)

I think that 2 is very strong, but not GF. Therefore 3 would be very weak and NF?

How would the strong hand bid with the majors reversed ?

4 was intended as a cue, so I think North would bid the same.

In fact, even if 4 is clearly cue for then 4 would be a better bid?

North thought that he supported with 4 (control with -fit

But as South, I hear this

Double - excellent, you have some points. I've got clubs but not much else.

2D - loads of points, no real suit of your own... hmm, I've got nothing else to show you except this heart stopper. If anyone asks, it shows a stopper, not an actual suit ;)

3D - you want a stop in diamonds for NT? Sorry, I ain't got it.

4H - You've got three hearts, sorry I had to invent the 2H bid, but what can I do now? Hand is a total misfit but you have decent strength so let's see if it makes.

Admittedly it's hard for North. 2D is more than reasonable (X-then-cue should be GF btw) and you don't want to give up on 3NT just yet. I don't like the 2H bid (shows the strength well but should really show 4-card suit, what's the hurry to show a heart stopper on that auction) and, given the 2H bid, I don't like 4H because it risks being passed. Just bid 5C, you might have missed slam but at least you land in a sensible game.

Or you could even consider a straight 3NT over 2C or 2H. :)

I was talking about (1)-X-2-2-2-3

Also shouldn't you play (1)-X-2-2-2N as good/bad so you have 3 by responder as showing clubs and values, then you can show your major suit stop.

I was talking about (1)-X-2-2-2-3

It is actually undefined in our system:

Options of overcaller:

- 2NT = 18-20

Further bidding: cuebid asks stop for 3NT, 3C to play, 3M: 3cM and values (max).

- Cue can be balanced 22-23 or GF onesuiter or strong support

- New suit = natural, 16+

- New suit with jump = Acol Two type, but not GF

- Cue and new suit = GF

- 3C = 12-15, fit

- Jump cue = splinter, extras, support

- 4C = 4/5cC, 19-21

Also shouldn't you play (1)-X-2-2-2N as good/bad so you have 3 by responder as showing clubs and values, then you can show your major suit stop.

Maybe (In our system logic 2NT would then be minimal).
