helene_t
Dbl is a reasonable alternative imo
ArtK78
Normally I would like to bid my major, but the sixth club sways me to bid clubs. I am not doubling the opps in an 8+ card fit at the four level when there is a good chance that we have an 8 card heart fit and a 10 card club fit. whereagles
5♥. I might need the clubs to discard diamonds. Note also that pard is favourite to have only 3 spades, making it more likely he has 4 hearts.
mikeh
I think it close between double and 5♣ and choose the latter because there is, imo, too much chance that they are cold. My diamonds are probably a negative value on defence and declarer will have no trouble picking up spades if he needs to, since partner's takeout double tells him where the defensive spade cards are. meanwhile, I might be able to make game. I reject hearts. There is too much danger of having an inadequate fit and/or a bad break. They probably can't double 5♣ when it is down, but may well be able to double 5♥, and 500 red v white is going to be ugly when it's wrong.
HighLow21
True the stack is in front of him not behind him--but are they really making 4♠? And are you really making anything above that?

And are you really making anything above that?Tell me what is wrong with this layout? Note they make slam once N doubles at the 1-level. Not often we see a red v white save :P It took 30 seconds to come up with this layout, only because I am a slow keyboarder.
rmnka447
I'm bidding 5 ♣. Partner has advertised shortness in ♦. With my doubleton, it sure looks like the opponents have at least a 9 card secondary ♦ fit. Defensive prospects don't look too good with my ♦ KJ sitting in front of opener. Unless partner has made a funny T/O double, there is at least a 9 card ♣ fit between our hands. If doubler has the big ♥ overcall hand and can't stand ♣, we'll be OK if 5 ♥ is bid. If I bid 5 ♥, it could get gruesome if doubler shows up with 3 ♥ and the opponents play a forcing defense by continually leading ♠s.
