lenze
I still don't know the correct bid with the south hand on this deal from more than 20 years ago. East was a solid player S VoidH AQJxxxxxD VoidC AT987 MPs with EW VUL,North deals and opens 1SEast overcalls 1NT (15-17 balanced)Your Call? pbleighton
4 hearts. A decent chance. Should prevent partner from going forward with spades (he's likely to have 6 or 7).
hrothgar
I can see why this hand is still memorable 20 years later.I checked the vulnerability twice, trying to figure out if RHO is making a comic NT overcall. We're white, they are red, so I think he actually has his bid. I have an 11 count.Give RHO a 16 count, and this means that LHO is absolutely broke. I'm going to give up on any hope of an intelligent auction and simply bid what I think I can make. I'm jumping directly to 6H. With luck, I'm going to get a "safe" trump lead. I'm sure that I'm going to miss a cold 7C contract, however, this is what I would bid at the table. A very useful agreement to have with your pd.
