Windows 8 tablets

Recommended Posts

Just a couple of tips for playing in touch-screen mode on a windows 8 tablet. Flash interface, obviously.

These are very obvious really but can't hurt to mention them.

1) Switch off "pictures of cards" mode in favour of diagram mode

2) Switch on "big cards"

3) Ensure that the "who's online" and "results" tabs are both minimised (Clicking or tapping on the tab name alternates between displayed and hidden/minimised).

4) Drag the chat window border down to the bottom of the screen. This moves the chat window into a third tab on the right of the screen along with "Results" and "Who's online".

The effect of the last two of these measures is to increase the area of the screen devoted to the playing window, and in so doing proportionately increase the size of the cards and bids. This minimises the risk of mis-clicks or mis-taps.

The chat window is entirely superfluous when playing in a robot tourney, and if you wish to view the ongoing results these can still be accessed by tapping on the tab header (and then subsequently minimised again when you have finished your review).

No doubt BBO will produce some dedicated touch-screen code into their product eventually, but this makes it playable in the meantime. Whether it makes it playable on a Windows 8 phone I couldn't say. I suspect not.
