Shugart23 Posted April 4, 2014 Report Share Posted April 4, 2014 I hope you dont mind a dumb question, but I was reading the other topic on opening preemptively weak 2 suiters and printed off the ACBL GCC convention chart to review it. I open the standard 2C precision showing 11-15 with 5 clubs and 4 card Major OR 6 clubs. But I cant see that the GCC allows me to do this . What am I missing ? An opening suit bid or response is considered natural if in a minor itshows three or more cards in that suit and in a major it shows four ormore cards in that suit. mycroft Posted April 10, 2014 Report Share Posted April 10, 2014 What happens is that if you *promise* a second suit (as opposed to "promise a second suit if I don't have N cards in the bid suit"), that makes it conventional, and certainly that would not be allowed (viz the "new" part of the GCC that specifically allows "2M to promise M+m"). But Standard Precision 2♣ doesn't do that - "most" of the time, you will have 6+ clubs, so while you may have the major, you certainly don't promise one.
