the hog
I am not interested in discussing the merits or otherwise of the "mini" NT. I am interested to know if you have the methods to bid the grand if partner opens 1NT. 10-12. KxxQJxxxxxKJx voidAKxAKQJTxAT98
Free
Ok, I'm used to play mini NT (10-12HCP, 5+SP) without 5 card M. We use a full relay scheme to bid slams. So I'll just slightly modify this to be able to show 5 card ♥ Here it goes: 1NT - 2♣2♥ - 2♠2NT - 3♣3♥ - 3♠3NT - 4♣4NT - 5♣5♦ - 5♥5♠ - 5NT6♣ - probably 7♥ East only bids relays2♥ shows 4+♥2NT shows 5♥s3♥ shows exaclty 3-5-2-33NT shows 5 SlamPoints (lucky you have 5, otherwise we don't open ;) )4NT shows 1/2 tophonours in ♥, ♠ and ♣, none in ♦5♦ shows exactly 1 tophonour ♥5♠ shows exactly 1 tophonour ♠6♣ shows exactly 1 tophonour ♣ After all this info, you can construct following hand:KXxQXxxxxxKXxx = smallX = possible Jpartner has 10-12 HCP, so he has at least 2 J's in all suits except ♦. Chance is quite big he has ♥J.
the hog
Yep that works. It was late tonight and I am tired. I could have found out using Keri too I guess. They bid it at the other table and we only bid 6D. Still had a narrow win though.
luke warm
free's looks nice... ours is: 1nt : 2d - game force2h : 2s - 4 hearts/ask3s : 4c - 3523/cab4d : 4h - 2 or 3/spiral4s : 4nt - no top hearts/spiral5h : 5s - top spade, top club, no diamond/spiral6c : 7h - queen of hearts/and another 'i see the hands' grand... responder should be able to count 13 tho
Gerben47
With my regular partner I play 1NT in some situations as 10-13 with 5♥ possible. With 5♥ you respond 2NT to Stayman with a minimum and 3♣ with a maximum. So Free's auction would start: 1NT - 2♣ 10-13 ; Stayman2NT - 3♣ 5♥ minimum ; Relay 3♥ 3523 Now I will let him take over
whereagles
Playing keri is easy if you start up with 2♣ 1NT 2♣2♥ <-- min with 5 card heart. Should be fairly easy to bid the grand now. The problem is why would one want to start via the keri 2♣ relay. One reason would be intending to follow up 2♦ with voidwood: 1NT 2♣2♦ 4♠ <-- diamond fit, voidwood huh.. doh! I just realized I have all keys outside spades
Finch
I play a 10-13 NT. We would probably bid 1NT - 2C2H - 2S3C - 5NT6D - 7H 2C = relay (planning to continue to show a 3-suiter)2H = minimum, 5 hearts (maximum with 5 hearts opens 1H)2S = forcing heart raise3C = club values - but any other call would work here equally well!5NT = GSF6D = queen high suit More fun is if opener has KxxQJ10xxxxKJx now 1NT 2C2D 3H4H 4S5H 5S6C 7H 2C = relay2D = no 5CM3H = 3 suiter, diamonds > clubs > hearts4H = to play4S = cue bid5H = horrible minimum5S = cue bid6C = cue bid
awm
We would bid: 1N - 2C2D - 3H4H - 4S5C - 5D5S - 6C6S - 7D7H The explanations follow: 1NT = 10-122C = puppet to 2D2D = required3H = 3 hearts, 0-1 spades, 5+ diamonds4H = usually 5 hearts, implies some wastage in spades4S = 1430 keycard (HQ is the essential card here, SA may well be trick 13)5C = 0 or 35D = ask about HQ5S = HQ + SK6C = asking about clubs6S = 2nd round control7D = choice of grands7H = the HJ makes it good
Flame
I dont play all these nice fetures, but if we have away to show 5 hearts , like pupet stayman, then after asking for aces, i will be able to know about partner's Q of heart and bid 7H. alcin91
Hi. I play Keri with my pd and we would bid it like this:1NT 2♣2♥ 2NT3♦ 3♥3NT 4♣4♥ 4NT5♦ 5♠6♣ 7♦ 2♣ is a puppet to 2♦, 2♥ shows minimum with a 5 card suit. 2NT asks for the doubleton and sets a GF. afterwards, bidding is fairly natural with cuebids and RKC (I prefer RKC to exclusion here since, having all of the other KC's, there is no abiguity and the SA might get us to 7NT). I bid 7♦ since I can't find out about the ♥J and I might need a ruff to set up the ♥, I would then only have 12 tricks but, where there is 12, there is 13 ;)
