Bid the Grand

Ok, I'm used to play mini NT (10-12HCP, 5+SP) without 5 card M. We use a full relay scheme to bid slams. So I'll just slightly modify this to be able to show 5 card :blink: Here it goes:

1NT - 2

2 - 2

2NT - 3

3 - 3

3NT - 4

4NT - 5

5 - 5

5 - 5NT

6 - probably 7

East only bids relays

2 shows 4+

2NT shows 5s

3 shows exaclty 3-5-2-3

3NT shows 5 SlamPoints (lucky you have 5, otherwise we don't open ;) )

4NT shows 1/2 tophonours in , and , none in

5 shows exactly 1 tophonour

5 shows exactly 1 tophonour

6 shows exactly 1 tophonour

After all this info, you can construct following hand:

KXx

QXxxx

xx

KXx

x = small

X = possible J

partner has 10-12 HCP, so he has at least 2 J's in all suits except . Chance is quite big he has J.

free's looks nice... ours is:

1nt : 2d - game force

2h : 2s - 4 hearts/ask

3s : 4c - 3523/cab

4d : 4h - 2 or 3/spiral

4s : 4nt - no top hearts/spiral

5h : 5s - top spade, top club, no diamond/spiral

6c : 7h - queen of hearts/and another 'i see the hands' grand... responder should be able to count 13 tho

With my regular partner I play 1NT in some situations as 10-13 with 5 possible.

With 5 you respond 2NT to Stayman with a minimum and 3 with a maximum.

So Free's auction would start:

1NT - 2 10-13 ; Stayman

2NT - 3 5 minimum ; Relay

3 3523

Now I will let him take over :blink:

Playing keri is easy if you start up with 2

1NT 2

2 <-- min with 5 card heart. Should be fairly easy to bid the grand now.

The problem is why would one want to start via the keri 2 relay. One reason would be intending to follow up 2 with voidwood:

1NT 2

2 4 <-- diamond fit, voidwood

huh.. doh! I just realized I have all keys outside spades :blink:

I play a 10-13 NT. We would probably bid

1NT - 2C

2H - 2S

3C - 5NT

6D - 7H

2C = relay (planning to continue to show a 3-suiter)

2H = minimum, 5 hearts (maximum with 5 hearts opens 1H)

2S = forcing heart raise

3C = club values - but any other call would work here equally well!

5NT = GSF

6D = queen high suit

More fun is if opener has

Kxx

QJ10x

xxx

KJx

now

1NT 2C

2D 3H

4H 4S

5H 5S

6C 7H

2C = relay

2D = no 5CM

3H = 3 suiter, diamonds > clubs > hearts

4H = to play

4S = cue bid

5H = horrible minimum

5S = cue bid

6C = cue bid

We would bid:

1N - 2C

2D - 3H

4H - 4S

5C - 5D

5S - 6C

6S - 7D

7H

The explanations follow:

1NT = 10-12

2C = puppet to 2D

2D = required

3H = 3 hearts, 0-1 spades, 5+ diamonds

4H = usually 5 hearts, implies some wastage in spades

4S = 1430 keycard (HQ is the essential card here, SA may well be trick 13)

5C = 0 or 3

5D = ask about HQ

5S = HQ + SK

6C = asking about clubs

6S = 2nd round control

7D = choice of grands

7H = the HJ makes it good

Hi. I play Keri with my pd and we would bid it like this:

1NT 2

2 2NT

3 3

3NT 4

4 4NT

5 5

6 7

2 is a puppet to 2, 2 shows minimum with a 5 card suit. 2NT asks for the doubleton and sets a GF. afterwards, bidding is fairly natural with cuebids and RKC (I prefer RKC to exclusion here since, having all of the other KC's, there is no abiguity and the SA might get us to 7NT). I bid 7 since I can't find out about the J and I might need a ruff to set up the , I would then only have 12 tricks but, where there is 12, there is 13 ;)
