nikos59
Hi all, I went to pagehttp://bridgebase04.bridgebase.com:81/vug/where the Vugraph logging data are storedand I see that only 2 of the 5 matches playedso far really exist, rounds 3 and 5. The lin files for rounds 1, 2 and 4 are therebut they are empty. I do know that Round 2was transmitted, because I watched the endof it and I have the complete lin file on myhard disk (and also at my Vugraph site). So, I presume there was a technical glitchand the real files were overwritten bythe empty files or otherwise not stored. I have three out of five matches at my page: http://www.sarantakos.com/bridge/vugraph/2005/2005-nec.html so if you happen to have watched the two missing (1 and 4),PLEASE SEND THEM TO ME. Note that the automatically logged lin files, asstored at the above address, include also the"raw" commentary, which sometimes makesit cumbersome to view the file afterwards (notto mention that sometimes the commentaryincluded concerns another match altogether!);at my site I am usually posting the "tidy" versions, with commentary excised (not manually). Anyway, I hope that whatever problem preventsthe storage of correct lin files will be solved. Nikos
fred
As far as I can tell what is going on here is that the operators prepared data files for all the segments of the tourament before the tournament started and tried to copy the appropriate files to the appropriate place on their hard disk before each session. Usually operators wait until just before the session starts to create the appropriate file for that session and then copy it to the right place. Apparently the operators sometimes copied the wrong data file, started a broadcast, realized their mistake, and then exited the vugraph theatre in order to replace the old and improper file for the right one for that segment. The BBO server is not smart enough to detect this condition and overwrote the old (correct) log files with new and empty ones. There is not much we can do about this now, but I don't think you should depend upon getting proper files from the vugraph archive web page for this tournament. Hopefully there are a few people who have the missing files on their hard disks and will be able to send them to you. nickf
There's another issue I've detected from the broadcasts from Japan. If one room finishes ahead of another, the Vugraph operator must keep the room open until the room finishes its last board in order to properly finalise the .lin files. nickfsydney

In theory they will always have complete data from both tables unless the operator(s) make a mistake. Please clarify if I am wrong about this. When you, as a spectator, leave a vugraph table (either by clicking BACK or because the operator closes the table), your log file should contain all of the data from both tables that was collected up until the point that you left. If the table you were at finished first and then closed, then you would have to join the other table to get a complete log file of the session (which is what I think you are claiming). fred
I have the closed room data for match 1, but I can't seem to find your e-mail address. Please let me know what it is and I will send you the file. The operators made a mistake in this segment and did not properly link the 2 tables together.
