A simple 4heart, and a ?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

a.) You are far ahead in a league-team match and find yourself in a 4-contract with J lead:

[hv=d=s&v=n&n=saxh10xxdakqxxcxxx&s=sxxxhak7xxdxxcakx]133|200|Scoring: IMP

the x are cards smaller than the 9. Sys=precision, bidding went 1 p 4 ppp[/hv]

How does the expert play this easy hand?

b.)

[hv=d=n&v=n&s=saq107xxxhjxdaxcqx]133|100|Scoring: IMP

Sys=standard simple-precision.

P opens with

2 (5+s + 4°Maj or 6+s, 11-15pts.) pass A:2(=forcing) pass

2

[/hv]

Do you bid 4 (or immediately after 2)?

Say you bid 2 because your feeeeeling tells you that there is something rotten in Denmark, your LHO doubles :rolleyes: , your dear partner bids 3. And now?

a) I'd play small on trick 1, seems safest to me. Depending on the next trick, I'll play my s for 1 loser or 2 losers (if they continue , then I'll play low to the T).

:rolleyes: I would bid 2 immediatly. If partner bids 3 I'll just go for 4. After the bidding you just gave, I would first ask what strength the 2 bidder has, if it promisses values or not.

♠ Ax

♥ 10xx

♦ AKQxx

♣ xxx

♠ xxx

♥ AK7xx

♦ xx

♣ AKx

Just a BILlie but I would try...

Top tricks are A,AK, AKQ, AK so we need 2 extra tricks.

If hearts break 3-2 we get 2 extra hearts, if 4-1 we need a trick from diamonds.

I take the A and play to AK if they break 3-2 play another win return and cash out for 10 tricks

If 4-1 then run the Diamonds and throw club and spade on the 4th/5th Diamond forcing the hand with 4 's to ruff and so trade a trump for a diamond winner, I then lose a spade and two hearts?

I only fail I think if the person with 4 hearts has a singleton diamond?

Probably completely wrong?

Steve

Just to show that I can't declare either:

Losers = 1 2 1. Since this is too easy assume 2 losers.

General plan = ruff a and discard a on the third .

@Free: If you duck the first diamond RHO returns a . It seems that 4-1 just killed your contract.

A, A, duck a .

You need VERY nasty breaks to be in danger now. In addition to singletons in both red suits, spades must also break 6-2 to go down.

To the second problem: It looks like partner has something like 0427-distribution (or maybe 0436?), otherwise it is none of his business running from 2. I bid 5.
