Why did GIB bid up to slam voluntarily?

If I had mistakes in this sequence, please point out.

It thought 3 showed 25+ which is an unreasonable assumption and ought to be fixed; your hand is fairly typical for 3. Hover over the bids and you can see the explanations.

GIB plays Lebensohl so 2N requires you to bid 3 anything else is GF so maybe not 25 pts but certainly a very strong hand

3D shows up as 25+ TP in the explanation

yes is GF. partner could have 0 so to game force opposite 0 need 25,

32 432 32 65432 would be a hideous example of crap partner could have

but realistically partner likely to have something so humans do on less

Partner's assumed range for Lebensohl is like 0-bad 8 or so, and he is much more likely to have 7 than zero. So as a practical matter you'll be waiting forever to have a 25 count and will miss way too many games if you wait for 25.

After taking a longer 2nd look I'd say this hand with the wasted J of diamonds is a tad too light to cue bid, should just bid 3 clubs, but cue bid should be something around 19+ or 20+ IMO.

And not bidding 3 doesn't create GF IMO, partner can pass non-cue bid 3M for example if really broke. It just shows very strong, around 19-21 or so.

Weird; I was just taught "a hand that refuses to play 3" with the example being a strong 4=4=4=1

I think people bid some number of NT rather than doubling with 4=4=4=1.Treating as balanced as 4441 is so rare (and only 1 card off being balanced) and if partner responds in your singleton it's awkward. Not a perfect solution admittedly.
