IMP Teams, opponents pretty reasonable

Opening lead ♣K (♥7 from E playing udca).

 

This was my most annoying misplayed hand today as I got most of the way to the right line and then misthought one small thing at the last second to fail on the makeable hand.

I would aim for either lho holding K Kx or xxx of diamonds

and if that failed I would try to find lho with honor(x) in

spades.

 

trick 1 win it messes with the timing if we duck and lho

finds the spade switch and gets a good signal from their p.

 

trick 2 low dia toward the Q if this wins the hand is over so it loses.

 

trick 3 win return it matters not what suit so lets say a spade

trick 4 dia A if both follow it is safe to continue (if rho has 5 dia see below)*

trick 5 dia J if both follow the hand is over so lets assume rho has the long dia

because if lho has the long dia the hand suddenly becomes too easy.

trick 7 top heart

trick 8 top heart

trick 9 top heart

trick 10 exit dia (we are losing our 2nd trick)

assuming rho has HHx left in spades the hand is over since there is no way for

the opps to untangle their 3 spade tricks and it never helps if lho pitches their

spade honor along the way.

 

If rho has 5 dia we are reduced to hoping lho has HH in spades (I don't like those odds)

trick 7 top heart ending in dummy now we proceed according to how lho has defended

 

if lho has not pitched their 2nd spade honor

trick 8 spade from dummy

we are hoping lho started with HH spades and no more hearts so if rho ducks the trick

lho wins and we get a club and if rho rises they can only return a dia or heart but we

can win and run out the red cards and exit with a dia and rho will have to concede a

spade in the end.

trick 10 exit with dia we are hoping rho is reduced to Hx in spades and a dia and we get a

spade trick in the ending.

Nicely done. Indeed RHO had K98x in diamonds and KQxxx of spades and switched to a low spade after winning the K. LHO slightly hitched on the spade but played a low spade (after playing the ♦2). I cashed the diamond A (LHO following with the T) and then cashed 2 hearts ending in dummy and exited a spade now. I had stripped my LHO to just a spade honor and the clubs to end play him, but on the spade I pitched the diamond exit card instead of my 4th club and now I could no longer end play RHO. I would have been fine if I'd pitched the club.
