General violation of site rules

Hi All

.. esp Fred and other site administrators

..

I have not used the 'abuse' mechanism because we have so many new players but the frequency and 'level' of rudeness on-site has been outrageous recently.

I have had several team games and table games disrupted because of outrageous comments from p or opps. I am reluctant to use the 'abuse' mechanism because we have so many new members who are maybe accustomed to other sites. Anyone how knows me will know that i can mix it in any company .. but maybe a reminder to all about site rules will do. From today I will report all site outrages even thought it against my philosophy to do so.

This is not my style .. but BBO's laid back and friendly attitude is being abused .. i will from now on report all site violations .. sry all .. i am not a policeman but enough is enough

Hi,

It seems to me that the changing attitude and all you re talking about wont be noticed from abuse and/or administrators unless community informs abuse . I do not think its bbo task to inform new members that bbo is a different site that they are use too.

To those thinking that bbo is similar to other sites concerning abuse, well, they ll find out the bad way once abuse is informed about siteviolations

A general reminder of bborules and policy like the one we had couple days ago in newssection is a good thing.Unfortunaly some ppl are and will be causing problems with beeing rude, chaeting, etc. Only way to stop or change this is when we inform abuse about the misfits, so report and we all benefit, even offenders.

Its my believe that most offenders do what they do because someone else did the same to them and got away with it, a sort of "act first before act upon" is better then vice versa.

The transfer from other sites u mention is likely to be thru, i think many "new bbo members" came because they gottten fed up with attitude on other sites(there will be other reasons as well but the one i mention is the most important one i heard from many folks).

Once your happy someplace you wont seek further, correct?

So report violations, it will make BBO a even better place.

Regards

Marc

It is so sad if not overtly sick that such a posting has become necessary, but I tend to agree with Dogsbreath regarding the frequent violations of bbo rules and rude behaviors by some players. If I had a penny for every opp who has left my table in the middle of a hand, I'd have enough money to buy some BBO software. The problem is that these people leave so quickly that I forget their screen names.

I have called a yellow to my table only once since being on BBO, when an opp accused my partner and me of cheating. (Yeah, right. We only live over about 1000 miles from each other, give or take a few.) The yellow arrived just in time to see the opp type something about OBL not having taken out enough people on 9/11 (SICK, but true). Guess who got barred within a few minutes? I don't believe that responding angrily or fighting back verbally when an opp becomes abusive benefits anyone. It just reinforces the abuser's behavior and adds fuel for further abuse. I guess I'll all have to start calling abuse more often. This whole issue is really sick, isn't it? Reality, but sick!!!! Now, if I only knew where that "abuse" key was located..............................

I guess a "thank you" is in order for the people (yellows or others) who have to then deal with these people.

Hey Double!

Anytime we introduce political mindset to our beloved game, suspension is the right course of action, at least in my mind. Otherwise, BBO will be the playing arena where people will insult each other on basis of religion, race, creed, political beliefs etc. I don't believe that BBO was formed for such a purpose. Introducing Osama bin Laden at the table didn't do anything positive, did it?

Doofik:

Hi!

Be thankful you didn't see this happen. It was so unbelievable and scary that someone would dare to make such comments, not just in public albeit cyberspace, but anywhere. I still have trouble believing that the whole event transpired. Even more, it is very scary to think that there are people out there who think that way. I hope you didn't misunderstand what I wrote. It was this opp who made the comments about OBL in plain view of the yellow (Pinnochio - Jason?) who had arrived at the table, and it was this opp who was suspended.

BTW: I still don't know how to contact Abuse. Would appreciate such information.

All yellows, including abuse (who is a bbo yellow) have email addresses.. their name @ bridgebase dot com .. figure it out... so abuse is abuse@youknowwhere.com

Interesting the way you post the email add Ben.

I just read something saying this is the right way to post email add if you don't want evil spammers picking it up.

eg: ben@bridgebase dot com better than ben@bbo.com

Thought this was important. :P

Smart ben :> (Yes I am sucking up, look out for a favour request in the near future)

  • 2 weeks later...

I have as a TD seen a couple of blatant violations. (I came on to a board the other day just in time to see a player post "f**k you opps")

1. Kick

2. Blacklist

3. (and here's where I make a suggestion) I post directly to the Tournament as a whole the following:

"Player x has been kicked and banned from my tourneys for unsportsmanlike conduct."

This sends a signal to others that this stuff is dealt with, and maybe there's the added sting of the public mention.

"Player x has been kicked and banned from my tourneys for unsportsmanlike conduct."

That is one way of putting it of course. Another, which I would suggest, is

"(Username) has been banned from my tourneys in consequence of a violation of "Rules of This Site". A report will be sent to abuse@"
