sceptic
Hi all, I would like your opinions about this contract and how we got there. 1/. I like crappy weak twos 2/. the game raise bid interests me 3/. what do you think of 3 clubs instead of 4 spades here is the hand [hv=d=e&v=e&n=s98hakdjt98764ct3&w=skjt76hdaq3caq875&e=sq43hq96542dckj96&s=sa52hjt873dk52c42]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South - - 2♥ Pass 2♠ 3♦ 4♠ Dbl RDbl Pass Pass Pass
inquiry
I like my auction better in this tourment... 2H - P- 2NT - 3D4C - 4D - 6C - PP - DBL - all pass Or at least the result... Ben
mr1303
Or alteratively 1H P 1S P2S P 3C P4C P 6C I think the E hand is worth a 1 level opening bid, on a good day. I also do NOT think the North hand is worth an overcall.
paulg
Hi all, I would like your opinions about this contract and how we got there. 1/. I like crappy weak twosNo problem in a style where your weak twos are weak, but, as Mark points out, this is actually quite a good one. Personally I dislike have a weak suit AND good values outside - partner is put in an impossible position when judging what to do. Better to have a weak suit and nothing outside. 2/. the game raise bid interests me 3/. what do you think of 3 clubs instead of 4 spades I prefer to support with support. 4♦ would be a good choice. paul
han
4C seems like a good bid here, it does show spade support! The weak-2 opener cannot be bidding at the four level without spade support.
paulg
4♣ seems like a good bid here, it does show spade support! I prefer to support with support. 4♦ would be a good choice.Clearly we should be careful if we partner each other B) Paul
luke warm
imo, both 4c and 4d promise support for partner... with 4c, the preempt bidder can't be offereing a choice of places to play, he must be showing a fit with partner... inquiry
Or alteratively 1H P 1S P2S P 3C P4C P 6C I think the E hand is worth a 1 level opening bid, on a good day. I also do NOT think the North hand is worth an overcall. Normally i would bid this way but this day we were trying all one bids one round force, natural, and 14+, with all two bids 8 to 13 natural
sceptic
imagine that wests clubs were in fact a good 5 card heart suit ( it does not transpose exactly so you can have the same 5 cards but use your imagination) and the void was in clubs. would you all be so happpy with east opening 1 hearts instead of 2 hearts ? sceptic
also how does this had evaluste to become a 1 level opener?
luke warm
some good players say they would open 1h... i admit, it would never occur to me to do so... i'm not real sure i'd even open 2h
mr1303
It doesn't really. Comes out as rule of 18 or 25 ZAR points, if my maths serves me correctly. But we've all been tempted. If partner bids 1S I raise to 2, if partner bids 2D I rebid 2H, and if partner bids 2C, assuming that's GF I try 3D splinter. I like a 1H opener MUCH more than a 2H opener, since this has 3 places it will happily play, and the suit quality is total wee. So for me it is either 1H or pass. 2H is fairly dreadful, assuming you play that as a weak
the hog
It would not occur to me to open 2H or 1H on this hand vul. Probably not even nv. The hand has far too many defects - a poor suit, 3 card S suit and a void.
dogsbreath
the bidding is awful ... but that's why so few of us have one of those yellow spikey things Rgds dOG
