Best bid I have seen GIB make

I certainly have seen some ridiculously bad ones, but GIB bid well here:

QTxx, T9xx, Axx, Jx The bidding: 1D Dbl P GIB bid 1S

P 2D P 3H!

Excellent call showing the second suit and decent values having bid 1S the first time. I had an easy 4H call and was one the few reaching that fine contract at IMPS for +12.5. Spade and NT games had no play. My hand Axx, KQJx, x, AKxxx.

Looking at the traveller, you should take credit yourself. Others have doubled and then bid 2 which got N declaring 3N. One guy bid 2 over 1 and got to 4 by S, failing to deal with the spade lead. So, it looks what won the hand was double and then cue bid.

Here's one poor guy who didn't get your intelligent GIB:

Yeah, instant tourney so basic bots.

2 after doubling and the 1 response shows 18-21 TP, 3-, rebiddable .

2 as an overcall shows 5+ , 10+ HCP, 11-18 TP.

Thanks. Some time I must learn how to look these up other than trying to find an example and mousing over the bid.

Based on the above I personally opine that, without factoring in that CHO is a robot, X then 2C is a better bid than X then 2D. Granted that opposite this CHO, 2D works better, that is only because North failed, in error in my opinion, to seek a H fit after 2C. Indeed the main reason for choosing 1S initially in pref to 1H is to preserve space when later showing the second major. If you are not going to bother to show the 2nd major you might as well respond 1H.

Minor correction though. Instant tourneys do not use basic robots. They are advanced, but possibly a more updated version of advanced than when the original tourney took place. Indeed it is possible that the latest version would look for H fit after 2C.

The descriptions are someone's best expression of the standard meaning of those auctions. I play that a cuebid after doubling should be interpreted as 3 card support with more than an Ace better than a minimum double. A new suit by doubler could be completely offshape and may have little or no support for advancer's suit.

With some exceptions I am finding it best to "just play bridge" rather than try to outguess my bot partner.

Let me know if you do, because that's what I did.

That's not true. The descriptions are what the bot understands from your bidding. If you "just play bridge" you will confuse the bots. That's not to say it's bad strategy, but just so you understand what it is you're doing.
