gszes
1c 1N seems to fit the criteria but for slam bidding purposes being able to rebid 2c to show a probable 6 of them is massively better than opening 1n where a huge asset can remain forever hidden. neilkaz
1♣ as I have a prime hand and no spots. Note this past few months I've missed two slams opening NT with similar and also have had the ♠ suit run against me in a different hand. This outweighs the couple of times 1NT has worked out for me here.
mikeh
This is a very pure hand, all controls, and no spots. It isn't the kind of hand that benefits from being declarer: if we belong in notrump, the odds are that the hand plays better from partner's side than from mine. Meanwhile, if we belong in clubs, we are almost never getting there if I open 1N. The only arguments for 1N are the instinctive desire of most players to be declarer (sometimes because they mistakenly think they are better declarers than their partner) and the 'it's matchpoints' argument. One can take the latter argument way too far, and on this hand, because of the purity, the 6th club, and the lack of spots, I think that bidding 1N is just too misdirected to be a good idea, especially in 1st seat. In 3rd seat there would be the preemptive effect to consider as well, but I reject that when partner hasn't yet had a chance to bid.

I will open 1♣ and rebid 2♣.Opening 1nt might get you to a making 3nt you would not have bid opening 1♣. That sounds more like imp strategy (when vulnerable). cherdano
Every point raised by Mike is valid. I still think more good than bad things come from opening such hands 1N. Showing your values. Getting to 3N before anyone can get a lead director in. Stealing the partscore. Etc.
mcphee
I like opening 1NT with 2 aces and 14 counts, but not this time.
Cascade
The only arguments for 1N are the instinctive desire of most players to be declarer (sometimes because they mistakenly think they are better declarers than their partner) and the 'it's matchpoints' argument. There are other arguments for 1nt. 1. It is easy to get to 3nt and 4major with little disclosure of the hidden hand - this is more than a matchpoint argument 2. The hand is not ideal for any rebid. I am not sure what the 1c openers are planning but I feel I would be a little uncomfortable rebidding 2c (or 3c) - especially over 1s; Not saying I would open 1n just that there are more considerations. phil_20686
I plan to open 1C and rebid 3C. Rebidding 2c with this hand is just way too pessimistic.
P_Marlowe
1C Depends a little bit on agreement, but I have a single suiter, I show the single suiter. Regarding the Rebid ..., I counted 15/16+ until I have seen the posts, recounted andcorrected my sums, but I guess I am going with 3C. With kind regardsMarlowe
