5C or Pass?

Recommended Posts

simply doing the math at IMPS where we like to try to take out insurance (ie avoiding hands

where -13 or more seems plausible).

5c

seems like a stand out bid. Surely p has at least 6 clubs for their 3c call missing AQ. The 3c call also

makes perfectly clear that we will probably have zero tricks in clubs. The stronger opps is behind

partner greatly increasing the odds they will make game. There is some concern that the opps

may be hugely underbidding and throwing off these calculations but if p can get 3 tricks outside

clubs the opps make 4s and we are down 2 OR down 1 or even making depending on dia ruffs.

If p can get only 2 tricks outside clubs we might go down 3 but much more likely we are down only

2 or less depending on dia ruffs.

If p can get only 1 outside clubs we might go for 1100 but much more likely -800 or less depending on

dia and a relatively small imp loss of 3/4 compared to -13 letting them play and make 4s.

This type of situation is one of the main reason for blasting into game because it make lho have to make

a guess under tremendous pressure--------------------------------------keep preempting they work.

bidding was:

1S-P-2S-3C

4S-AP

4S=

At our table the bidding was (I was sitting W):

bidding was:

1S-P-3S-4C

4S-5C-AP

5C+1

This was a very bad board for us.

Note: I don't remember the hands, but I (W) know that I had 2 HCP and something like:

Jxxx=xxxxx=xx=Jx
