straube
This is a relay structure that hopefully shows 5+ hearts right away...except when holding spades or 3-suited hands. Requires more memory but also nice to get a 5-cd heart suit in the picture before interference. Maybe someone can check my math here. Ideas for improvement welcome. Zelandakh
I looked at some schemes like this too but I did not like the assymetry (5♥5♣ = 1NT; 5♥5♦ = something else entirely) and liked the idea of 2♣ = the red suits (getting both suits into the auction immediately) more. Some versions of this that always show a major immediately if one is held are: 1♥ = 4+♠, if bal or 3-suited then 4+♥1♠ = no 4 card major1NT = ♥ 1-suiter or 5+♥4m or 5+♥5+♣2♣ = 4♥5+m or 5+♥5+♦2♦ = 4-5♥, 0-3♠, bal or 3-suited2♥ = 4-5♠, 2-3♥, bal2♠ = 4-5♠, 0-1♥, 3-suited or 1♥ = 4+, if bal or 3-suited then 4+♥1♠ = no 4 card major1NT = ♥ 1-suiter or 5+♥4m or 5+♥5+♣2♣ = 4♥5+m or 4♥, 2-3♠, bal2♦ = 4-5♠, 0-3♥, bal or 3-suited2♥ = 5♥(332) or 5+♥5+♦2♠ = 4-5♥, 0-1♠, 3-suited or 1♥ = 4+♠, if bal or 3-suited then 4+♥1♠ = no 4 card major1NT = 0544 or 5♥(332) or 5+♥4+m2♣ = 4♥5+m or 4♥, 2-3♠, bal2♦ = ♥ 1-suiter2♥ = 4-5♠, 2-3♥, bal2♠ = 4-5♠, 0-1 hearts, 3-suited2NT = 4♥, 0-1♠, 3-suited (1444/0445/0454) The last of these looks to be closest to your aims but does use 2NT up. The extra space comes from the 1NT response but putting them there would lose the 5+ hearts meaning. It does achieve your aim of splitting up 4♥ from 5♥ and having 2♦ show hearts though. Zelandakh
I like this last one. Can you flesh it out a little bit? Also not seeing where the H/S 2-suited hands are placed. The ♥-♠ 2-suiters are under 1♥ as usual. Basically you show spades if you have them; if not hearts; and if neither then 1♠. I also note, given your question about both majors, that you could move the bal/3-suited hands with spades and not hearts in to 1♥ and pull out some of the hands with both majors to the free 2M/3any responses if you preferred that. Whatever seems logical to you and your partner at the end of the day.
