I am not saying that I wouldn't have doubled 5D when it came back to me. But if there is one hand where I would not have done it sitting North it is that one. Maybe next time I will follow my instincts and open 1N as I normally do
Bbradley62
I think 2♠ is clearly the correct call over 2♦, but it doesn't keep you out of trouble, since this was the sequence at several tables:[hv=lin=pn|mirwan,~~M36409,~~M36407,~~M36408|st%7C%7Cmd%7C1S2JKAH378QADAC568%2CS567HD3457TC39JKA%2CS349TQH569TD28C47%2C%7Crh%7C%7Cah%7CBoard%203%7Csv%7Ce%7Cmb%7C1H%7Can%7CMajor%20suit%20opening%20--%205%2B%20H%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%201%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C2D%7Can%7CBalancing%20overcall%20--%20rebiddable%20D%3B%2011%2B%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7C2S%7Can%7C5%2B%20H%3B%204%2B%20S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%2015-22%20total%20points%7Cmb%7C3D%7Can%7C3%2B%20D%3B%2010-13%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7C3H%7Can%7C3%2B%20H%3B%205-%20HCP%3B%206%2B%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C4H%7Can%7C5%2B%20H%3B%204%2B%20S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%2015-22%20total%20points%7Cmb%7C5D%7Can%7C3%2B%20D%3B%2010-13%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cd%7Can%7C5%2B%20H%3B%204%2B%20S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%2019-22%20total%20points%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cpc%7C]360|270[/hv]I don't think 3♥ should show 6+ points; it should be a simple preference that could be made on a yarborough. PS: Based on another table, GIB thinks your first double shows 16-22 total points. I wonder how strong he thinks you have to be for your second double. 1eyedjack
2S first time round misses out when partner had a hand that would have sat a t/o X of 2D for penalties. Added to which I am not averse to paying in Clubs, which 2S is less likely to find. Added to which 2S cuts out preference to Hearts at the 2 level (bear in mind that partner initially passed 1H and we lack the safety normally available in a reverse bid that responder has at least shown values for a response). So playing with an intelligent F2F partner, on balance I prefer X. But against GIB CHO, 2S may be the more practical solution. Did you notice that 3H was a free bid over 3D?

If North had 6+ total points and 3+H, he shouldn't have passed partner's 1♥ opening.
E Laurvick
I've been playing with the robots for a couple of weeks. I have YET to have one of them pass my penalty doubles. The last time it happened my robot partner, who had never bid, passed my three bids, then when I doubled the opponents at the four level, rescued (to the wrong suit) with an ACE! I've decided the only thing the robots are good for is to practice dummy play. Often in ridiculous contracts.

Yes, we heard you (and pretty much ignored you) the first time you said that.http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/64393-gib-is-only-good-for-one-thing
