The reason is that a preference to B has to be at a higher level.Not convinced. I agree in principle where a player voluntarily patterns out in this fashion when not placed under duress. But in this case at the time of bidding 2C opener has no reason to expect to be forced to bid again. Are you suggesting that with 5-4 shape but no extras then opener should rebid 2D rather than 2C just in case responder forces him to bid again? iandayre Posted January 9, 2014 Report Share Posted January 9, 2014 Art is correct. There was no game force in place when responder bid 1S. Opener should rebid 2C with 6-4 and extras and 2D with the same shape and minimum values. With 5-4, surely opener always rebids 2C. If responder continues with the 4th suit, opener is truly fixed only with 1354 and no H stopper. Usually I'd bid 2NT and hope for the best.
