Has partner psyched?

You hold KQx KQ9xxxx xx x, and you deal and open 3H, favourable, love all. Regardless of whether you think this was the right call, what do you make of how the auction proceeds:

3H P 3S P

4S P P X

XX P 5H X

1) Do you agree with the XX, given your decision to open 3H?

2) Do you think partner psyched?

3) If you think so, do you think you could prove it?

4) If yes and no respectively to 2) and 3), would failure to bid 5S now be fielding?

No

It's possible

It's not my problem to prove it

No, it's not illegal to play your partner for a psych, it's illegal to play a system that caters to psyching

If I explained partner's 3 bid as promising spade length then I can see why it looks a little like fielding. But seriously, partner is captain, he knows more or less what I have.

Partner could have bid 3 for all sorts of reasons. Maybe he wants a spade lead against 5m.

I think redouble is very wrong. I have no reason to expect partner to have anything other than some length in spades and/or hearts.

Agree with all of the above, but I would say that it is more than possible that partner has psyched. 5 says that partner has psyched. And I think that everyone at the table should realize that.

Redouble is a terrible call. Partner knows what he has. If 4S X is making, then you're already getting a good score, and you have no defence to 5 of a minor.

It's now clear cut that partner has psyched. Bidding 5S is at best "unintelligent".

1) No

2) Yes

3) Pulling the redouble a hint

4) No

My aunt's cat knows partner has psyched.

I agree with all the above. However I would add that the xx is a beginner's bid.

What Frances said, except that I agree with the redouble.

If partner really has a 3 bid, I expect to make 4 easily. My trumps are far better than he will expect. If I pass, he may picture me with something like Jx and decide to run because the trumps are bad. Or the double may be intended for takeout, LHO may guess correctly that this is what it means, and I'll have missed a second chance to show my hand.

If partner has psyched 3, the redouble probbaly isn't going to do us any harm.
