gnasher Posted January 1, 2014 Report Share Posted January 1, 2014 An improvement on ggwiz's line is to delay drawing trumps: ♣A, ♦A, ♦ ruff, ♠ ruff, ♣ ruff, ♠ ruff. A diamond ruff and then the ♦A will squeeze East but we don't have the entries.So I'll play ♣A, AK trumps, pitch a club, ruff a club and go for West to be 3271 or 2272 and ♣Hx.You might have ducked the spade at trick 2 as I'm not sure if E has enough information to duck ♠A. gszes Posted January 2, 2014 Report Share Posted January 2, 2014 There is no need to play diamonds early we need to know if we need the club finesse and the best way to determine that is to play a spade toward K at trick 2. This caters to a couple of ideas. If LHO wins we need the club finesse to have any chance. Second it is also possible lho could hold JT and leading toward the K (assuming rho ducks) followed by the Q will allow us to make the hand even when trumps break 31 (without resorting to the club finesse). It is not easy to play all the possible lines depending on what happens at trick 2 but I think the immediate spade play gives us our best shot since rho might panic and rise with the A (not likely but possible).
