Made 6♥.I could have asked for keycards, chose not to ask. Suggestions on how to get to slam and should the slam be hearts or NT? mike777
ya as you say north might try rkc... alternative2=south tries 3s first then pulls to show big hand?
Cyberyeti
Getting to 7♦ which is not bad is beyond me. Simply bidding 5♥ over 4♥ is a possibility and will lead to 6♥.
monikrazy
I think finding slam gets a lot easier playing namyats here. I could see a number of different sequences from 4C but none in which responder stops short of 6H. Responder also shouldn't be too worried about missing a grand since if opener had AKQJxxxx in hearts he should go ahead and open 2C. 4C - 4D - 5C - 5D - 5H - 5S - 6H sounds reasonable. or even easier 4C - 4N - 5H (2 key cards no queen) - 6H If partnership methods call for us to routinely open 1H with this hand, maybe 3S after the dbl as a western cue--bid. If partner bids 3NT we can show our extras with an additional bid. Of course, partner will have a dilemma of his own faced with the prospect of signing off in 3N with 17 points. For that reason, I tend to think bidding 3d is better than double.
gszes
thinking about the range of hands p might have bid 4h with, my first thought was to try rkc and being willing to settle for 5h if p has less than 2 keys and be happy with 6 if p has 2 keys with or w/o the heart Q since we have no rational asking methods for reaching 7. Cyberyeti tossed in the idea of 5h and that gave me pause because my first thought there is that 5h would ask opener to bid 6 with a spade control. Anyone else curious about this? SteveMoe
Perhaps1♥-2♠-X-P3♠-P-3N-P4[di} gets us started in the right direction.....
the hog
5H is such an obvious bid. You could probbly have bid 6 even without the 5H bid. Passing is pathetic.
kenberg
Cyberyeti tossed in the idea of 5h and that gave me pause because my first thought there is that 5h would ask opener to bid 6 with a spade control. Anyone else curious about this? I think of 5♥ as asking about spades. There will always be some uncertainty about slam after teh four heart bid, but I think of a raise to 5♥ as an announcement that on values it seems that 12 tricks should be there but we may be losing the first two. Using 5♥ to ask about trump strength is for auctions with no interference. If I wanted to makw a slam try, and over 4♥ I think that I do, I would bid 4♠. After I have shown the other suits with my negative double and then partner jumps to 4♥, hearts are trump.Looking at my hand, it is reasonable to think partner might be worried about spade losers. I can relieve his worries on that score and show my extgra strength by bidding 4♠. Added: As to how good North should expect South's heart suit to be, I note that S did bid 4♥ and it was not based on his outside aces. He should have pretty decen trumps. Lorne50
N should bid 4♠. He knows there are no losers outside trumps so he must make some try. I do not agree with those suggesting 5♥ - to me that says you have 2 losers in the suit bid by the oppo (it is only a trump ask if the auction is not competitive).

madongjun
Mabye 7♦ was better contract.
kgr
Is DBL (after 1H-2S) with North hand clear OR is bidding 3D followed by 4C better?
lycier
Pass 4♥ may be a good option since east seat may hold ♥QTxx,I have reason to believe that 6♥ as a final contract will be in danger.Maybe luck is always a part of this game,so if bid up to 6♥,it seems likely to be a competitive strategy. Zelandakh
It's all about agreements. For me 4♠ asks aces, 5♥ asks about ♥, YMMV.One reasonable option here would be 4♠ = RKCB; 4NT = slam try+ without a spade control; others = slam tries with a spade control. This is effectively using 4NT as a denial cue bid (DCB). I am something of a believer in DCBs generally but esepcially in auctions of this type, since a good hand is often able to take control with a control and therefore having a call to ask for help below 5M can gain a certain flexibility. If your Kickback rules allow then reversing 4♠ and 4NT might be even better but it is not worth having an accident over.
TylerE
Passing 4♥ is just failure to play bridge.
