georgi
4♦ would show ♦A which GIB doesn't have. 4♣ is still 13+TP so to bid 4♠ showing the Ace GIB has it need more points then it has at the moment. So over 4♥ you could show ♦A using 5♦ which as tested GIB happily will be glad to hear and bid 6♥. as 5♦ will show stronger hand by you. It is my observation that GIB's ability to continue after a splinter is very unintelligent. It will happily make a splinter, but responding to splinters is a definite weakness. When you have Txxx opposite a singleton you are almost playing with a 30 HCP deck. OK, a bit more - opposite a void it would be a 30 HCP deck. The purpose of South's splinter is so that North does not evaluate ♠AKJ♥KQ982♦9♣T765 as being of equivalent strength to ♠T765♥KQ982♦9♣AKJ The latter is worth a sign-off, with a reasonable expectation of already being too highThe former is worth committing to 5 level, assuming GIB does not play last train (and maybe too strong for last train anyway) Opposite a splinter, you are under a lot of pressure to indicate whether your hand has improved or deteriorated in light of this information about the shortage. That pressure is intensified where the number of bids available below game are restricted, and even more so when a serious/non-serious 3N is not available (not that GIB plays that either I think)
Antrax
I'm with them. GIB's splinter judgment is awful. When I splinter it seemingly never moves forward on its own (it once signed off with xxxx in the splinter suit), when it splinters it almost always has a singleton ace.
