Match Points, but IMPs would be the same probably.

I hope you guys can draw better inferences than me on this one.

Partner's opening was errr wide ranged?

Lead is 3 (Attitude, promises a honor)

You duck Q, and win 10 return with the ace (LHO plays the 4)

Then comes 7 rounds of diamonds pitching your hearts

RHO:

5-4-7-J-5-4-6

LHO:

8-10-J-3-5-8-10

Next comes A and 10, RHO showing 8-9, LHO the 7. Decision point!

The hands are KJ43 T853 JT8 7 opposite QT4 J74 5 9864 plus 9, A and Q. There are 2 ways for RHO to hold Q and only one for LHO so on the surface it seems that finessing is indicated. That the lead would be most appealing from KJ943 only encourages this - West might have led 4 or even a passive 8 from KJ43.

I failed this one, but perhaps I shouldn't, with 5 clubs RHO might had pitched one before spade, its a feble argument, but at least something, I got 600 only after losing to doubleton queen. Another argument is that lols are getting 630 (or as the cards lie 660 or 690)

This is a recurrent theme....the first pitch when an opp is running a suit is almost invariably from a 5+ suit if discarder has one. Manfield wrote a great article (it may have been a series) in the BW many years ago, called, iirc, the idle fifth.

My experience is that it is almost hard-wired into the non-expert and even to the lazy expert to make this first discard from length. Yet much of the time, we can see, as defenders, that we have several pitches to make. Subject to the need to give signals to partner (bearing in mind that a good declarer is looking for these signals as well) we should be randomizing the order of suit pitches.
