They become old news too fast but the free Learn to Play software download is really good. Available from www.acbl.org. Play, play and play some more concentrating on play of the cards over the bidding and THEN you will be primed for some reading. I favor authors with a sense of humor like Kantar and Bergen but it's a lot of greek until you establish a basic foundation. Check out www.bilbridge.com which stands for Beginner/Intermediate Lounge but I suspect they are tilted towards the Intermediate end. The segregated playing area they have within BBO is a great way to connect with like minded players, they offer a lot of instructional series online and have a library of them that may be useful as you progress. Stay away from books about bidding unless it is 100% basic bidding - read play and defense books first. Watson's Play of the Hand is still a classic - there are many more good ones.
