At the best of times the conferences can be a bit awkward because one or both of the players are quite withdrawn but that was absurd. But the players can also be acting all Rainman. When Karlovich asked him yesterday "you changing your response to 1. d4, does it mean you're still looking for the best defense?" I mean if the players want to sit down and comment on some lines of thought during the game, that's pretty cool, but to field questions from an audience who clearly isn't thinking on the same level as the competitors is predictably hopeless. VA: (simply) "No" :) I'm glad; I really think he has more to offer but then I thought that last year.
