byang
today's robot tour, I had 7 spades with kqj10XXX, after I repeated bid spade 3 times, robot still new suit (club) with singleton support. that is really silly programming. please add a simple rule: when partner bid same suit 3 times, have to pass even void on that suit!!!! helene_t
I often find the robots looking for a fit even when it knows that we have a fit in a different suit. Note that the 5♣ bid shows 3- spades. As it is South's spades are playable opposite a void but if his spades had been a bit worse he would have a pure guess. So I think a better rule would be: "if you know you have a major suit fit and partner doesn't know it, don't make a NF bid in a different suit". There could be an exception when you hold an undisclosed 8-card major and you know of an 8-card fit in the other major, but .... BTW should 5♣ really be natural on this auction? Stephen Tu
Maybe GIB thinks there is a slam? The point ranges for 4s seem really off, 19-20 total points? And 3s 17-20? When I learned, 3S was "16-18" total points. 5c on this auction should be undefined and not exist, perhaps with lower bound on points (and better definition, 7+ spades), it would not be tempted to bid on. Stephen Tu
- GIB plays 2/1, not sayc, so 1nt is forcing and can have up to about a bad 12 count. Yes, 3s is invitational. Which in most books on bidding is described as roughly 16-18 total points (maybe about 14-16/17 HCP depending on shape) But GIB is saying 3s is up to 20 total points. 19-20 total points is a game force opposite a 1nt response. I'm saying the range GIB thinks 3s and 4s is showing is slightly higher than normal. If it was lower, presumably there shouldn't be any 1nt responding hands that would be thinking about moving over 4s.

I'm saying the range GIB thinks 3s and 4s is showing is slightly higher than normal.I think this is because with a 6331 hand, human players often jump shift into the 3-card minor to get the game force established, but GIB rebids his suit. So the jump rebid encompasses this wide range.
