Trick Two: ♥J, K, A, 7

Trick Three: ♦3, 7, A, 2

Trick Four: ♦5

 

Plan the remainder of the play.

 

 

If you play a round of trump, it will go 3 from West and 10 from East.

I would throw a heart, play 3 rounds of trumps and 3 of clubs and then ruff a club and a diamond back for the last club. Of course the hand would not be posted if this line worked, since it is what every LOL in a club tournament would do.

It is strange that East did not play a third round of hearts.

This would have beaten the contract if West has the ♠Q.

 

There are only 2 explanations:

 

East has the ♠Q, or East was not sure who has the third heart.

But in the latter case a heart continuation was definitely indicated if East has a singleton trump even if it is West, who has three hearts.

Accordingly play trumps from the top.
