Fluffy
[hv=pc=n&s=s6hk87dct&w=sjhaqj4dc&n=sht3d98ca&e=sh952d4c6]399|300[/hv] Contract is 5♣ by south Declarer just losed a second trick to East, so the trick count is 6-2. This is what happens now: East leads ♥2South plays ♥KWest plays ♥4North (dummy) plays ♥3West says ouch er...North (dummy) requests West to pick ♥4 up and change itSouth (declarer) puts ♥K as winner and picks a card to lead to next trickEast comforts West saying: It doesn´t matter, you make ♥A in the end, 1 off. (claims 1 down)South says no, I make the contract, ruff a spade and discard 2 hearts on diamonds.East looks at all the cards and says, ok: then its 2 down. How many tricks? Hanoi5
Down two. And I ask East not to speak again. Were you East?
campboy
East claimed. West did not object, so the claim stands and play ceases. South then objected to East's claim, so I listen to South's objections and decide he is incorrect. Down 1. Tell North off for playing the cards without being directed and making gratuitous remarks. RMB1
I suspect East/West will now try to withdraw their concession and claim two tricks. Is there a normal line for one down?

iviehoff
Yes - a trump to the A and cash 2 winning ♦s, just losing the last trick. No doubt what E had in mind, overlooking that S could make a mistake. I think E would have done better to keep his mouth shut. What he said wasn't true because his partner had given a trick away by failing to take the A immediately, because he can return a spade and take the contract 2 down by force. Then he made it worse because his claim removed the possibility of S making a mistake and giving the lost trick back. Of course if E wasn't claiming his remarks would have been as legally objectionable as dummy's. But ultimately, Campboy's analysis is spot on. ahydra
The ♥4 is a played card, and while North's effort to be nice is appreciated he shouldn't be participating in the play. So South wins that heart trick. East then claimed. Having stated a line "West makes ♥A at the end" and a number of tricks (1 off), he can't change that to two off. South's objection is indeed incorrect if East discards a diamond on the spade that gets ruffed, but a normal line for East, having claimed as he did, would be to discard a heart instead. So, result is one off. ahydra
