Adam1105
♣♦♥♠ Although, I'm interested in what other players would bid sitting East, I'm MUCH MORE INTERESTED in knowing exactly the god of SAYC says I'm supposed to bid here. aguahombre
SAYC is just a system card. No system covers what to do when you don't have the values to do anything; they just leave it to our fertile imagination.
mr1303
This is more interesting if it goes P P X P. I think I defend but without much conviction.

P_Marlowe
Hi, the booklethttp://web2.acbl.org/documentlibrary/play/SP3%20(bk)%20single%20pages.pdf Taken from the section "Competive Bidding" Bids after intervention retain their meaning, if possible. #1 X is neg. up to 2S On a quick glance, I was not able to find the req. for a neg. X on the 2 level, for a 1 level neg. X, you need 6+ #2 Cue is forcing to game, with no clear direction for the moment You did ask about a competive seq., and the section about "Competive Bidding" is onlyon 1 page, so you cant expect a clear answer from the booklet / from the SAYC gods. My take: #1 pass#2 if partner reopens with a X, bid 3D With kind regardsMarlowe
TylerE
Why the heck would I be considering making a negative X on this hand. The shape is 100% wrong, why even bring that up?

The first part of the problem is easy. The second part is very difficult.
P_Marlowe
Why the heck would I be considering making a negative X on this hand. The shape is 100% wrong, why even bring that up?It was intended as a complete summary of the things, SAYC says about competitive bidding situations. If you know the complete summary, you know, if the SAYC notes cover the situation or not.And if I give you another add. Ace, but make the your spade holding xxxx, than the shape is still100% wrong, than the neg. X is at least an option, ... or not. With kind regardsMarlowe
TylerE
I know exactly what the booklet says: "The negative double is used through 2♠ promising four cards (at least) in an unbidmajor." Are you misreading the auction? The unbid major is hearts, not spades.
