ArtK78
"Whilst critics dismiss his claims the seminars attract large groups of people, up to 150 a time." Really? Critics dismiss his claim that he is the reincarnation of Jesus Christ? I am shocked. The funny thing is, the naysayers sound very similar to the naysayers of biblical times. As long as he doesn't hurt anyone, I don't have any problem with this. He appears to be a lot less menacing than most bible belt evangelists in the US.
Vampyr
I thought this was kind of sweet: "my suggestion is, even if you don't believe I am Jesus, at least learn how to love."

onoway
If the story is accurate, what's there to have a problem with? Who cares what he calls himself if people are living peaceful and happy lives? not many people do these days, it's not surprising lots have gone to join him. I suppose a lot of people figure he should be put away and everyone there should start paying psychiatrists to get where they think they are already. Vampyr
One of my favorite religious numbers, perhaps along the lines of the OP: Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke... not really along the lines of the OP. All I have to say about the OP is, if he starts to mix a pitcher of Kool-Aid... be careful.
32519
Matt 24:4-5 NASU4 And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you. 5 "For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will mislead many. Matt 24:23-27 NASU23 “Then if anyone says to you, 'Behold, here is the Christ,' or ' There He is,' do not believe him. 24 "For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. 25 "Behold, I have told you in advance. 26 "So if they say to you, 'Behold, He is in the wilderness,' do not go out, or, 'Behold, He is in the inner rooms,' do not believe them. 27 “For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. Vampyr
Bible quotes So these are the words of Jesus? LOL his own followers didn't take much notice did they.

nige1
he may be a pretty smart guy. After all he managed to increase the value of his land. Agree with helene_t. John Miller is not nuts at all. He is saner and more credible than politicians who, judging from other threads, have convinced many of us :)

billw55
Big Bang Idea Shot DownIt sounds like satire to me. Atoms/particles spontaneously and continuously gaining mass? And not word of explanation of how this could happen, or even a link to more detailed discussion.
gwnn
Big Bang Idea Shot DownApart from the obviously misleading title, this would be another blow to the favourite argument of many apologetics, the Kalam cosmological argument. ArtK78
Good to see that years of scientific research has been shot down by a paper by one scientist.
kenberg
No, probably not satire. I found http://arxiv.org/abs/1303.6878/ and especially http://www.nature.com/news/cosmologist-claims-universe-may-not-be-expanding-1.13379 My guess is that this view will not catch on except, perhaps, as an entertainment. But who knows? I gather that testing this explanation presents problems. I was reminded of the old observation "There is no such thing as gravity, the earth just sucks". I gather that testing this explanation presents problems. What confuses me is how any of this is at all related to religion? In what way, shape, or form is the big bang theory consistent / inconsistent with any kind of enlightened religious beliefs?

In what way, shape, or form is the big bang theory consistent / inconsistent with any kind of enlightened religious beliefs?Because many people think that disproving the big bang (or evolution, modern geology, etc) is the same as proving biblical creationism. Winstonm
The Big Bang theory was originally proposed by a Catholic priest as a method to validate religion via a scientific explanation - showing that there was a start to the universe instead of the universe being eternal. This idea was furthered by the explanation behind the redshift. If redshift does not mean expansion, there is no reason to accept a starting point to the universe - no start, no need for a starting god figure.
