whereagles
Imps, all vuln, expert opps. You hold: ♠ AQTxx♥ Axx♦ Qxx♣ Ax RHO you LHO pard3♦.....3♠..pass..4♥*pass..?? *You are playing transfer advances, so 4♥ is a cue-bid, showing spade support and a good hand. Your bid? By the way, in case you're wondering, 5♠ would show extras and a hand with no diamond control (it does not ask for help in trumps, rather it asks for help in diamonds). inquiry
Ackward... how would your partner show a diamond control and a spade fit? Clearly not this way. I look at my hand, and look, I don't have a diamond control either. Let's see, partner no diamond control, me no diamond control. .... I wonder what I am going to bid... oh, I know, 4♠.. next hand... If your 4♥ can show fit and diamond control, you need to rethink your methods. Ben
whereagles
In this case, the transfer advance merely interchanges 4H with 4D. I don't how 4H can be the problem.. in a natural system, does 3D 3S pass 4D show a diamond control 100% of the time? I don't think so... wouldn't you cue 4D on KJxxKQxxxxKQx Or, placing overcaller with a different hand, on KJxxAQxxxAxxx
pbleighton
4S. Three aces are nice, but you have close to minimum for your bid and a balanced hand. If pd is still interested in slam, he can go forward. Peter
pclayton
I'm minimum but I like my controls. If I can find a 4♠ call in tempo, then thats OK. If I stew at all; I'll try 5♠.
luis
I declare myselft fixed and bid 4s. I'm happy to go plus after this started with a Vuln Preempt. Ok I might be missing six but....

fred
4S on the theory that if all partner needed was 3 Aces and reasonable spades for slam to be good, he could have bid Blackwood. whereagles
Thx all. I see my table choice of 5S was somewhat optimistic. In the actual hand 4S makes, but 5S doesn't.
