Allright, since we all seem to agree to open 1, we can move on to the second part of the problem

You LHO pard RHO

1...dbl..2*...pass

??

*2 shows 5+ diamonds, with 7+ points.

You're also playing all sorts of support bids, so pard is very, very unlikely to hold 3 spades. Your bid?

Alright, now for the third part of the problem we pass on to pard's hand, who has...

2..pass..??

Do you judge your hand worth a 2NT bid (natural 11-12)? Opener is limited to 14.

It depends on who I'm playing with.

If I play with the partner who bases every bid on losers, then I'll invite to 3 and with the current hand the opener will accept because he has only 6 losers.

If I play with my strong buddy, then I'll pass or bid 3 to show 5-4 (and support obviously). Opener here will probably bid 3.

What's 2NT? :)

Really? Am I reading this correct?

2 over double could be this kind of hand?

MHO, the responder should have bid redouble, 1NT or even pass, or

yet even 2, rather than 2.

2 level new suit is not constructive over double, it's a runout bid.

Arrows:

2 is a transfer advance showing diamonds. Its a great way to play, since you can signoff in diamonds, show a diamond suit with support, show a 2 suiter with diamonds + another.

I open 4s.

(if I don't know that 4s makes open it too:) )

Opening 4 is suicide. On this hand it might work, but in the long run, you'll lose bigtime!

You don't get similar hands very often and after 4s opening you can make a very good score or a very bad score. It's very difficult to speak about results in long run...

I have one good reason to open 4s - expert opps. It's not probable that I will make a good result with "normal" bidding.
