Doesn't work in this seat, but with the new EBU regs, 3♥-3N-P-4♣ is clubs if partner doesn't alert it, you have to guess if he does.

 

I'd be very inclined to bid 6N to protect our combined ♥ holding if he has Qxx (or Jxx(x) and a whale) and put N on lead with no information.

3nt is such a big bid missing all these Aces I'm expecting a pretty big source of tricks in diamonds but I've played against opponents where pard may have KQJx of hearts. :blink:

 

I can't think of anything practical other than 6nt as above but won't be surprised if we missed 7♦ maybe needing to ruff the clubs good. Late in a midnight it might be fun to jump to 6♥ on the way to send pard deep into the tank. After they bid 6♠ you bid 6nt and send them to therapy trying to work it out.

6N for me. Take away a club and I would invite with 4N (as long as I am not playing online with an unknown partner!) but the 6 card suit plus possible long diamonds for partner swing it in favour of bidding the slam.

Have you also considered 4♣ = diamonds; 4♦ = clubs; 4♥ = spades; 4♠ = both minors? 4♣ could probably also be played as "diamonds or 4 spades", although that might get complicated if South suddenly came to life.

Yes, at our age we considered it, laughed about it, and then forgot about it. That doesn't mean it isn't a good idea; it just means on the frequency of ocurrence we didn't think we should do it.

Partner is in balancing seat, and has a right to expect some values from our hand already since the ops aren't in game. I think that 4♣ or 4N is reasonable, but that blasting slam is not especially reasonable. A good partner knows you have to have something exceptional to move over 3N as a passed hand, and will accept aggressively.

I might try 4♣ or 4N. The advantage of the latter is that it's less likely to be misinterpreted.

You know what you meant; I knew what you meant. There are others we teach who get confused, trying to use "passed hand" meta rules to situations where they don't apply. I was being a stickler about the term, not about your evaluation of this hand.

Uwe, what do you think pd can have for his 3NT bid? I suggest you add that to your 3 bullets and 6C and see if you can make up hands where 6 of something does not have a decent play.
