broze
Hmm, perhaps this would have got more hits on the expert forum. I think on a club lead you can go after either hearts or clubs but on a trump lead you need somethingout good to happen in the heart suit where there are a few extra chances as well. I couldn't work it all out at the table. Comments on the bidding also welcome.

johnu
1. Ruff a club, ♥A, ruff a heart low, ruff a club, cross with a trump, ruff a club, cross with ♦A. Try to draw trump, and run clubs. This needs 3-2 trumps and 4-3 clubs with 4-3 clubs being 62%. I'm worried about the club lead which is probably more likely to be from 5+ than normal but it probably is still better than playing for a favorable heart distribution. 2. On a spade lead, you don't have the entries to try clubs, so you'll have to try to ruff out hearts.

Now, If ♥KQ appear doubleton, you can revert to setting up ♥.

Now, If ♥KQ appear doubleton, you can revert to setting up ♥. You can't afford to ruff a heart low since you don't have the entries in dummy to ruff another heart, and get back to draw trumps. If you ruff high, and you don't get ♥KQ tight (would West make a no cost false card with KQ9x, (or maybe has K or Q singleton) with clubs 4-3?) you don't have the entries to set up clubs. Good points. Although If LHO has a singleton ♥ then it's hard to make. So, if you place him with long ♣, you might hope LHO has doubleton ♥KQ or is false-carding from ♥KQx. Anyway, there's definite extra chance when ♥KQ appear from RHO: ♣A, ruff a ♣, ♥A (RHO follows with ♥Q), ♥x (RHO follows with ♥K). Now you ruff high and set up hearts.
