sceptic
2 hearts - pass - pass - x can partner bid a minor suit over this sequence if they have 4 spades, I ask as the reason I was given for not bidding 2 spades was, that it was a bad suit 9873 or something like that. cherdano
Hi sceptic. I think your question is a little too brief to give a helpful answer. Of course partner can bid a minor in this sequence; as long as he bids at least on the 3-level, it is a legal bid :) How about giving a full hand? helene_t
The double suggests, but does not garantie, four spades. And the preempt suggests that the split may be bad. So it's ok to bid a 6-card minor suit or even a good 5-card instead of a bad 4-card spades.
whereagles
If you're playing "equal level correction", then it's perhaps better to bid 2S, as pard's support for your 6-card minor might be tame. Example: AQxx.......xxxxx.............QxxxAQxxxx...xxx...........AJTxxx pard will not know your clubs are so hot, so he'll "correct" to 3D and you're in trouble. Not playing ELC, it's ok to bid clubs, as pard won't have AQxx x AQxxxx xx (and if he does, he'll pass your 3C hoping for the best), but can have instead Kxx xx AQxx Kxxx.
