SixOfWands
My link 5S here is an appalling bid. There's no reason to think 4S is making never mind 6S. Please please please will you stop GIB playing in majors with a seven card fit. It sucks.
1eyedjack
My link 5S here is an appalling bid. There's no reason to think 4S is making never mind 6S. Please please please will you stop GIB playing in majors with a seven card fit. It sucks. I would expect 4S to make. And indeed 11 tricks are available despite that South has the weakest possible 2C opener both in strength and in distribution (subminimal in fact, with 22 total points where GIB system requires 23+) That said I agree that I would not bid 5S on that North hand. Not only does it lack a 3rd Spade but it also lacks the 8-12 total points that the bid allegedly promises, according to the explanation. We need to acknowledge however that the pre-emptive bidding may place North under some pressure to choose the lesser among several evils. Then, GIB appears to expect South to hold 25+ total points to justify bidding 6S, As the cards have not been redealt since the auction commenced, at which time South lacked a 23rd total point, let alone 25+, it would appear that GIB would recommend that South should pass 5S, which makes when you play for the Clubs to come in for one loser. cloa513
North can easily bid 4♥.
Bbradley62
If 5♠ is invitational to 6♠, why should it show 8-12? Surely, with 10-12 (and probably with 9) you don't bother inviting slam opposite 23+. So, 5♠ is more of a grand slam force, asking partner to bid 6♠ with a minimum and 7♠ with extras? Ick.
