Defend or declare? I only find it of interest because having found the solution using a DD solver, it remained not obvious (to me) why without some considerable thought
Finch
I haven't worked it out, but my instinct is to say 'declare'That's because at first sight it look to be off if East gets forced at trick 2, as he can no longer set clubs up and seems to concede an over-ruff if he starts on a cross-ruff.Hence I assume that declarer can do something cunning to overcome this, otherwise why is it an interesting problem?I've spotted some interest in the minor suit pips. South leads the Q♥ North takes the Ace,and on seeing the fall of declarer's king, returns the 10♣ The defence take 1♥ 2♣ and 1♦ for -1.4♥ is a dodgy contract for NS. It could make but would rely on defensive errorsand there are entry problems too.
Fluffy
I though it was interesting, a bit easier than usual for a double dummy problem, but this is not a bad thing at all. After thinking of it I checked double dummy and for the first time this year I was right on the double dummy analysis. Didn't find any reason to post it other than bragging or spoiling the fun to others, none of them really relevant for me. I also saw the funny diamond lie out Frances says, but I also saw that ruff and discard doesn't harm defence so no endplay operates.

It's easily making on a heart lead and a club back, just set up clubs.
nige1
OK it wasn't interesting. IMO it's interesting but since I used a DD program I won't reveal my choice of seats. Thank you 1eyedjack
