North does recognize that 2N was not the best choice.

Our auction was 1S 2C* 2N 4C 4S (2/min) 6N

The result of this hand is a little like speeding and having the driver in front of you caught on radar. You get an adrenaline buzz but what you've done is not smart and you can't really brag about it.

That actually happened on my way to a bridge game. I was running late and making good time in the left lane. Cresting a hill, I saw a cop with a radar gun. He had it trained on the poor sap in the right lane that I was passing!

Bridge involves some luck! At all levels this is so,as we can see by watching vugraph. Watching a high level match earlier tonight, 1 by East on his five card suit and South overcalled 1NT with a good hand and Jxx in Diamonds. North raised to 3, with no help in diamonds. . West led a heart. I imagine it could have been right.

It's very important at such times for East not to point out to partner that a diamond lead would have set the contract.

Hehe. I was motoring home and when my passenger woke up I told him I had found a REALLY good rabbit and was zooming along behind him at a tremendous clip and safe distance. He said, "That's a cop." Luckily it was a Sherriff with more important things on his agenda.
