2/1, All red, you deal, opps silent throughout:

Void KT62 KJ54 AKQJ3

1C 1S

??

Do you reverse? If so with Diamonds or Hearts and why? If not what are you bidding?

Over both partner bids 3 clubs, then what?

As always, thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I expect it to go like this:

1C - 1S

2H - 2S

3D - 3NT

.... unless Responder has 4 cards .

Don,

Over your 2H partner bids 3C.

As it happens I bid 2H to leave myself space to bid 3D over the expected 2S bid. The 3C bid threw me a bit.

Over 3 I think you have to punt unless you play something similar to Lebensohl over reverses

Does partner have a balanced crap hand? or maybe a nice 8 or 9 pts?

Lebensohl helps with this problem

I bid 3 and hope if partner has real crap we can stop in 4

It is impossible to answer this with any assurance since we have no idea what 3 showed. Do we play any artificial responses over the reverse?

For me, 3 is a positive, gf move with real club support (could be xxx given that I have promised 5+, but won't be a mere 'preference').

Otoh, if partner is supposed to bid 3 with some 4=3=3=3 near Yarborough, my thinking processes are going to be different.

Having said all of that, I would always bid 3 simply to mark time. My problem is almost certainly coming on the next round, and that is when having no idea of what 3 meant will come home to roost.

I think it clear, btw, to reverse into hearts, since we may never find the heart fit below game otherwise, at least I wouldn't. For me, had I reversed into 2, partner's 2 would be artificial and the notion of bidding 3 over that is too horrible to even contemplate. Note that Ingberman will require me to never bid diamonds should he bid 2N over 2 so there is no such thing as a no-cost option in these auctions. We are more likely to survive missing diamonds than hearts.

If a poster does not say so why should responses be artificial.

Likewise 3 is fourth suit and does not hint at this distribution.

I bid 3NT.

This at least hints that I am short in spades. A good player might run from 3NT, in which case chances for slam have improved.

This is not a good hand for natural bidding neither for playing Walsh.
