GIB version number

I think it may be helpful if the version number of GIB in use at the table be displayed somewhere on the screen. More screen clutter, I know. Perhaps hidden but with an option to interrogate?

I see that there is a thread in this forum about "GIB version 19". And when Georgi responds he mentions that corrections are being implemented in version 28. How do we know if and when version 28 is unleashed on us? Are we already using a version later than 19?

We could then quote the version number when posting bug reports, and anying viewing archived posts would be on notice if the post is no longer current.

It may also be of benefit in MBC when players other than host are sitting against robots to know what type they are against, but that is a pretty fringe issue.

Why not name the GIB- GIB28D

D for daily rental GIB

blank for weekly rental GIB

28 version

There is plenty space in the name area of table display. It would help to discern if bugs are still valid.

  • 4 weeks later...

Currently Windows version GIB as it used the software on particular PC are v21.

All tourneys robots ( no matter of client type of launch in this case ) and these used through Web version are v27 ( at the moment ).

Tourney robots are all "advanced".

Loaned depend on the choice you made - basic or advance.

Thank you georgi.

What you say is interesting to know, but will soon become out of date, and hence it does not really address my OP.

I am less interested to know what version is currently implemented, than to know at any future time what version is then implemented, and that without having to ask a human.

I probably put this thread in the wrong forum. Should perhapse be in "Suggestions for the Software" subforum, not the "GIB Robot DIscussion" subforum.

The thread labelled "GIB version 19" actually discusses the updates made for versions 19-25, which were once separate threads but got combined without renaming the one remaining thread:

I've merged all the old "GIB version XX released" threads to reduce the number of pinned topics here.

New versions are always announced (with explanations of the changes made) in the News section of the BBO website. Usually, someone copies the post into this forum, so that the information lasts longer than the one week or so that News lasts on the main site, but this apparently hasn't happened for the last two releases. Between the two of us, I'm sure we can see that it happens in the future

That might be a work-around of sorts, but ultimately I do not regard that as a solution on a par with the standard "Help/About product ..." menu that is normally a standard integral part of any software (well, Windows software anyway ... finding the version numbers of Android apps is a bit of a fight. Presumably the developers think that as the apps auto-update there is no need for the user to know the version history)
