Sate of the match where you are behind do to previous insanities you MIGHT pass in the HOPE the other guy goes down in game, that is the excuse you can use for not bidding game. Many a contract has foundered on the reefs of assumption(!) :) If you open 1♥ on most suitable "rule of 18" hands (as we do when playing a strong ♣), then a raise to 2♥ shows 6-10 HCP. I played small ♥ toward dummy and made the marked finesse of ♥. I made 11 tricks. The other table played ♥Q toward dummy and made 10 tricks.
