Zelandakh Posted August 13, 2013 Report Share Posted August 13, 2013 Some players do play that a 3 level opening promises a 7 card suit. Obviously if that is your agreement then you stick to it. Most these days play a more fluid style. Robson/Segal has made this style very popular even at club level and BBF is generally dominated by aggressive bidders anyway. This is also the style I prefer and it is a clear 3♣ for me in this seat/vulnerability. But my partner also knows to expect this. With a pick up partner I might be tempted to pass even when I think 3♣ is clearly better. They will probably not think anything of a pass but if I open and it goes badly they will lose trust and it will probably hurt us more than the potential gain in the long run.
