mr1303
XAXAKQJTXXJTX Partner deals and opens 1C. Auction proceeds 1C (2S) 3D (3S)3NT P ? Had enough, try for slam, or bid slam?
Free
Enough? I have 8 tricks! I'll bid 5NT, pick a slam.
paulg
4♦ as I don't want to bid 6NT when partner has QJTx in spades. (As it's from Brighton it will be matchpoints)
Fluffy
4♣, set clubs as trumps to ask keycards, then bid 6♦/7NT. 4♦ will get a negative 4NT from partner too often when he is unaware that our diamonds are self sufficent. Even better if we play 30-41 blackwood, since we could stop in 5♦ missing ♣K and an ace. Worth noting that a 4♦ slam try previous round would had worked better, but probably undiscussed. MrAce
Enough? I have 8 tricks! I'll bid 5NT, pick a slam. I love it when my pd wants me to pick a slam when he is holding a suit like AKQJTxx http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif
Zelandakh
Worth noting that a 4♦ slam try previous round would had worked better, but probably undiscussed.Taking 3NT out into 4♦ is a slam try, no? And using 4♥ as the negative response instead of 4NT is a good agreement that makes many auctions of this type smoother.
Fluffy
yes but there are different inferences, direct 4♦ sets trumps, 3♦ + 4♦ suggests slam in diamonds.
ggwhiz
While my 3♦ bid was forcing it didn't promise a solid suit or this many tricks. I like the idea of arranging to key card on clubs towards a possible grand.
JLOGIC
4D seems fine, I do not have enough to force to slam since I could easily be off 2 tricks. I will pass 4N from pard.
