What do to with this?

Ax J AQxxx AKxxx

Both vul at IMPs. What do you do after (1H)-1S-(p)? (2H = good spade raise, 3m = fit jump, 3H = ask stop, 4x SPL, NT bids natural)

What if your hearts were Jx and your spades the singleton Ace?

When you play methods that make it impossible to show this hand type, then you can't show the hand type.

If 2 is forcing, which is how I have always played it and still play it, then this is trivial.

If 2 is constructive but non-forcing (a treatment that I think is probably better, but I play with old guys like me), such that partner will pass with a minimum, then you can try 2 and pray, or (it seems to me) you can bid 2 and pray. I'd choose the former, since the latter endplays you yet again should partner make the almost inevitable 2 bid. Now 3m presumably is a game try in spades, not a suit. At least if he bids over 2, you can bid something else...maybe cue hearts next time?

Since all studies done on the power of prayer demonstrate that prayer does no good, I suspect that you won't be happy with the result no matter which horrible choice you choose to inflict upon your partnership.

<hides round a corner>

... new suits are encouraging but not forcing.

When 3rd seat passes, I don't think fit jumps are necessary, so if you want to play 2m as constructive, then 3m should show a powerhouse.

So on this hand, a jump to 3 covers most options (but not as many as a forcing 2).

I think it is good to play 2m as F1 by UPH in this spot. We used to play NFC but changed it after a few too many spots like this (more generally we play transfer advances, but new suits below the cue F1 by UPH).

Yes my usual 18 HCPS hand after partner overcalled... I very much prefer non forcing to forcing here.

If 2 m is nf and 3 m is a fitjump, I bid 2. IF I can bid 2 NT to show this hand type over partners 2 bid, I will choose it. If this is natural, I choose a minor...
