Do you fancy this 0 count

my partner would take this 4 bid as more diamond tolerance, like 6-3. This is a minor issue, but some undesired corrections are bound to happen.

May I inquiry a bit about the 2 bid? 1 looks very normal with 4 hearts and a strong hand.

That is irrelevant, because partner is marked with 3 or 4 spades.

I expect the cue bidder to be 4-5 in the rounded suits, and opener may well be as well (if he is 4-4, he would tend to find a 2NT rebid unless very concentrated), so that makes pard likely 2-2 in the round suits.

*** Exactly. Why no negX? Q-bid raise of clubs? Very strong force? Why not 1H?

I would have bid 2S over 2D as Q-bid raise or very strong force,

in a quandary if it has another meaning.

Now I'm seeing they have a C+H double fit.

I try 4S, fearing this bounces them into 6H/6C making.

Are they able to see S-control + D-short with their 4xH +5XC +2xS +D-ruff?

I'm sorry I blabbed if they do.

Obviously it would be odd, but my point is, if I can construct a hand with void, constructing hands with 1 or 2 shouldn't be complicated. And I would rule out partner with 4 spades given his failure to bid them over 2. Unless they are very weak 4, but I have a strong feeling that he won't have that :P

TBH I have no idea why I said pard has 4 spades.

I can't speak for the oppo but I think it replaced what would have been an inverted 2 in an uncontested auction.

Ok so lets count losers, aproximately 2 spades, 2 hearts, 0.5 diamonds, 0.75 clubs for 5.25 total. Sounds like a good investment, unless partner has 2 aces and 4 clubs (to be able to read the lead), because then 4 is down from the start. 5 would probably be 500 only also, so it is all worth it unless they go down.

I really want to be sure that they have 8 hearts, if it smells like they are in the 4-3 fit pass ASAP. But otherwise I would bid 4. The big win comes if they bid 5.

To those like me that bid 4, partner doesn't have AQx xx AKxxxx xx which would mean that both games might be making.

Worse than that, their trump finesse is losing so 4 can be beaten, though it wasn't at 18/28 tables. But it was beaten at our other table :(

The full hand:

IMO 4H-1 should be a normal result here. South had the chance to bid spades, north can afford to lead a top D instead of the stiff S and The club switch isnt hard to find.

So its the "always lead singleton" group that were the losers here.
