jillybean
1st, vulnerable, MP T,Ax,xxx,AQxxxxx We play 3nt as broken 8 card minor, do you open 1C, 3C, pass ?
trevahound
1♣, for me. Not close. 3♣ or 3nt opposite an unpassed partner wouldn't even have come up to shoot down. Neither would pass. If I'm going to psyche, might as well be 1nt or 2spades, something with an upside.
aguahombre
1♣, but you already knew I am not a "Get busy on every hand" person.
ggwhiz
3♣ or 3nt opposite an unpassed partner Is like taking your pards bidding box and throwing it away. Pass sucks at mp's but it's better than the above.
Siegmund
I choose 1C, I understand pass. Thou shalt not preempt with two aces.
Fluffy
I have nothing against preempting with 2 aces, but here we might have 9 tricks opposite an ace so 3♣ doesn't remotely make justice to the hand. 1♣ for me.
neilkaz
I clearly prefer 1♣ to 3♣ in this spot and have too much to pass and no rebid issues after opening 1♣.
billw55
Agree, two aces and easiest rebidding ever, 1♣ and no second choice.
mycroft
Oddly enough, if I'm bidding 3♣ I'm doing it *because* we could have 3NT opposite an ace and some cards. And that's what 3m shows in my systems by an unpassed hand - "partner, if you bid 3NT you won't be disappointed by my hand". It means we can't open 3m with the kind of dreck that will push the opponents around (like we do with 2 bids and 3M), but it means that partner isn't stuck with the "can't guess right all the time" hands where +110 turns into either +400 or -150 if he bids. We had another thread recently where I still believe a blast to 3NT is correct rather than an invite after a minor suit rebid with (say) KX AXXX XXXX KXX. mikeh
There was a time when I would have strongly advocated a pass, on the basis that we hold the wrong suit, and the wrong spade holding, to bid and rebid and rebid our suit....compare this to holding, say, 7=3=2=1 with the same sort of values. However, in recent years I have loosened up and would open this 1♣ and keep making minimum club noises thereafter. I have nothing against 2 Aces for pre-empts, but I do have strong feelings about 1st and 2nd seat situations, and this isn't a 3-level pre-empt for me. As for 3N, please....children could be reading this! * * if only.....too bad children don't seem to play bridge or cards at all these days. Free
The hand is too strong for a 3-level preempt: 1♣.

Having said that I may not open it 3, but I play K/S a lot right now, and even though we allow AQJxxx 11-counts, 1m is sound - so this hand can be *very* dangerous, say if -790 or -730 is on the table (or if +200 is on the table, but I pull worrying about -730), or if "9 tricks was enough, partner".
