How do you play a double here? Assuming you are not playing it as showing something like ♠Hx, this hand seems to qualify for most other meanings.

1. No. It is clear to pass.

 

2. Double shows support for the unbid suits and some HCP. If you had only 1♠ and 2♥ it would be more uncomfortable, but I still think it would be right to double.

I would open but many wouldn't. If X is just an ordinary negative double, it's obvious to do it, maximum pass, doubleton spade if partner goes back there.

 

KNR gives 12.75 as to what it's worth.

No, I wouldn't have opened. Yes, I would double now. Perhaps the N/B Forum isn't ideal for introducing responsive doubles, but this is one of the situations where they apply.

 

The Double, (responsive) shows tolerance for partner's overcalled suit (spades) and willingness to compete to the 3-level in a minor if we have a fit there.

I would open but I think it's very close and don't mind a style of bidding where this is a pass. Having not opened, I would double as I'm happy with partner retreating to spades and I want to compete to the 3 level in a minor if partner has some length in a minor.
