Equal Level conversion

Recommended Posts

I noted in the topic "What to bid" that many people entertained the notion of doubling with the following hand:[hv=s=sxxxhakjdkq972cjx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] after a 1S opening bid. Some stated that they play equal level conversion thus in their partnership x followed by 2d (over a 2c response and probably over a 1nt response) does not show any extras.

I'd like to know how "equal level conversion" handles big hands. And in this specific instance a big hand with diamonds. For instance[hv=s=sxxxhakjdkq972cjx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv].

i'm aware of the general principal of equal level conversion but it has never been made clear to me how to differentiate between the good hand and the "bad" hand. This treatment seems to have a lot of merit but........

Thanks

You were going to bid 3 over 2 to show the big hand, so you simply jump to 3 over 2 to show the big hand when you play equal level conversion. (That is you were prepared to bid 3 to show a big hand, so you do it anyway)

So...

(1S)-X-(P)-2C-(P)-2D = equal level conversion

(1S)-X-(P)-2C-(P)-3D = gosh

(1S)-X-(P)-1N-(P)-2D = equal level conversion

(1S)-X-(P)-1N-(P)-3D = gosh

(1S)-X-(P)-2H-(P)-3D = gosh
