barsikb
Dealer: North Vul: Both [hv=pc=n&s=shk97654dqt3cak95&w=sqt632hj832dj4cj7&n=skj8haqtdak652cq8&e=sa9754hd987ct6432]399|300[/hv] I'd like to know how would you bid. I'd also like to know how should bidding go if it strarted this way:1♦ - 1♥2NT-3♥4♥ Would really like to use Voidwood now, but it has to be jump to 5♠, right? which is too high ... eagles123
this is probably a bit resulting, but south could cue 4S, north 5D and then south use 5NT grand slam force... also as east i would overcall 1spade purely due my teacher saying "when its possible to overcall in spades, do it" lol :)
barsikb
We definitely went to different schools ;) How is it going after 5NT?
louisg
Dealer: North Vul: Both [hv=pc=n&s=shk97654dqt3cak95&w=sqt632hj832dj4cj7&n=skj8haqtdak652cq8&e=sa9754hd987ct6432]399|300[/hv] I'd like to know how would you bid. It's worth noting that North can save some space by bidding 4D instead of 4H. This must agree hearts, otherwise North can't assume that any contract above 3NT is playable. The actual hand, with immense heart support and a side source of tricks, needs to make a more encouraging bid than a simple 4H. I realize though that this doesn't address the issue of how South should proceed after either 4D or 4H. However, by hearing 4D instead of 4H, South can be more optimistic that North has the cards needed to make a grand slam (hAQ and dAK). In a good partnership, I would go so far as to say that over 4H South should give up on 7 due to the fact that North did not bid 4D.
Cyberyeti
I'd also like to know how should bidding go if it strarted this way:1♦ - 1♥2NT-3♥4♥ Would really like to use Voidwood now, but it has to be jump to 5♠, right? which is too high ... a) you might well not get that start, you might get a 2 suited bid from E and a bounce from W. b) over 1♦-1♥-2N I would bid 3♣ (whether artificial as some play or not), is it that difficult to visualise Axx, Ax, AKxx, QJ10x where playing in clubs is a lot better than playing in hearts or Axx, Ax, AKJxx, Qxx where 7♦ is the place to be. If you bid 3♣, whether partner bids 3♦ or 3♥ you can then voidwood at the 4 level. On your start I would just voidwood anyway and if partner has AKQ, QJx, KJxxx, QJ I'd take my medicine. Fluffy
south can bid 4♠ over 2NT which is voidwood with heart fit. But anyway the 4♥ bid is wrong, 3♥ shows 6 hearts and slam interest (otherwise 3♣ with 5 or 4♥ without slam interest) and north has not been asked to raise, he has been asked to cuebid, and that's what he should do. In fact a 4♥ sing off is the weakes action possible and is probably based on ♥xx only.
